Set amidst boiling and bubbling hot springs, mud pools and steaming lakes is Rotorua’s only Living Maori Thermal Village, Te Whakarewarewa, home of the Tuhourangi/Ngati Wahiao people for over 150 years.

Take a journey through our home and let us share with you our history, Maori culture, traditions and unique way of life. See how we utilize the geothermal activity that surrounds us to cook, bath & preserve. Learn about the history of the Guiding Legacy that has been handed down throughout the generations of guides that is still continued to this present day.

Tantalize your taste buds with a Geothermal Hangi meal that has been cooked in the boiling hot pools and steam vents you will see throughout the village.

Be entertained by our very own Te Pakira Cultural group as they serenade you with melodies pertaining to the history of the people who reside in the village.
